Beginning Saturday - our autism journey

All I can say is at least it wasn’t two o’clock in the morning again. Owen woke by four and was ready to start his day. All the routine changes over the last few weeks have really gotten to him but he was very excited to start his day.

He was very concerned that he was not going to get to see his grandma. With having baseball in the morning and then we were going to a drum session at a yoga studio kept us from going to see his grandma earlier in the day. He kept talking about when he was going to get to see her. He loves to go do things, but it’s always hard on him when it’s not in his order.

It was time to get ready, but he wanted to make sure we were both wearing blue pants. He told me to order more light blue jeans because he wants to “wear those blue pants.” He came flying around the corner when I walked out of my room with my blue pants on. He bent down and stopped me as I was walking to see exactly what I was wearing.

Baseball was first and it was going to be hard for him because they were in the gym today since it had been raining. He thinks it’s for basketball and running so baseball was not exactly what he had in mind but he handled it. He also wanted to make sure no one had gum and wanted to take everyone’s phones so he could put his favorite game on them. There is one more Saturday game in a few weeks but it is at a different field so I’m not sure if he will be able to handle it.

When we left there we grabbed some lunch and then we headed to the yoga studio for the drum session. Owen loved it. He didn’t completely understand the concept at first but then caught on. The instructor was great and the kids all seemed to enjoy it. We are going to schedule some more sessions for us to work with the instructor on other exercises for us.

We left there and he went to his grandma’s house for a few hours. I had a few errands and then I went and picked up dinner from my parents’ church. They were having a spaghetti dinner. I then went to get Owen and we came home. We enjoyed our dinner and the night flew by with him singing and translating words into other languages.

The big concern for him was if he got to go to church tomorrow. I told him if he slept past four tomorrow and he had to listen to instructions. I pray for sleep tonight. It was a very busy day but Owen for the most part handled it all. Here’s to sleep and new adventures for tomorrow. Follow your dreams and win with your heart. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
