I got up and fixed our first breakfast of the day. He wanted to make sure I wasn’t eating a banana. Once we got past that his mood seemed to get better. He was focused on getting back to school and missing his best friend. He wanted to make sure he would be back at school tomorrow. I told him he would and prayed that the weather would not affect him going.
He kept asking if we were going to church but I told him that we were staying home. I wanted to go but he was sleepy and I didn’t want to push it with how cranky he was this morning. He was not able to settle and kept asking the same questions over and over. I was able to distract him some but he wanted to make sure about school.
When he wasn’t asking about school his focus was on his best friend. I think his best friend will be at his school next year and he wants him in his classroom. These are questions I don’t know the answer to. I keep trying to get him to understand that we are only in December and he still has many more months of this school year. He understands what a year is and the months but I don’t know that he can make the connection of how long that actually is and what all can change in that amount of time.
As the day wore on he was a lot calmer. He was still asking me questions but he wasn’t as anxious about them. He was using a lot of his sensory toys and he was using his rocking seat to get some of the input he needed. Some days he doesn’t want to use any of the different things we have and other days he will use them for hours. Today was one of those day. He was lying across his wobble stool with his head resting on the couch and his feet on his trampoline. It always amazes me how he can get his body into so many positions.
He wanted me to watch a lot of videos with him on his tablet. He tells me lots of details about what we are watching but he likes to tell the wrong details so that he can say “Are you teasing me” and then answer correctly, laughing the whole time. He has come so far with his descriptive words and what he will tell me now. I see so much incredible progress.
The night came quickly and thankfully he was in a great mood by the end of the day. I think he realized his fall break was coming to an end and he would be back in school very soon. Bedtime came and he wanted to make sure he was seeing his teacher tomorrow and if he would have her for summer school. All I could do was tell him that he would see her tomorrow and we would have to wait and see about the other. His laughter made my heart happy today. Let the world hear you laugh and know that it will make someone’s day. Smiles to all and donut daze!
