The talk of the town is about staying home. He did not want to go anywhere. It was a big week for him and he did amazing so staying home was fine with me. He was sorry that “Aunt Betsy, Cheryl, and Debi are moving back to Florida.” The concept of them being on vacation is something he completely understands so he thinks they are moving back and forth. He asked all morning what city they would move to when they came back to West Virginia.
He was plotting his days ahead but he was very calm about it. The licking stage of our day was in full swing and what he could break or could not break but otherwise he was happy as a lark. He finds it funny to talk about all of his behaviors and distracting him is exhausting.
There was a lot of talk about his pants. I told him that if he wanted we could make one of his dark blue jeans into pants that have strings. I asked him if he liked that idea. I have mixed feelings about whether I am starting something but the dude likes what he likes and strings are his thing so we will see how it goes and maybe at some point he will have all string and wrinkled pants. And if that makes him happy it is a beautiful thing and it will be less stressful for both of us.
He only wants to wear the one pair of jeans even though he has two exactly the same style except the one has strings on the cuff from where he has walked on it. We cut his jeans and I let him pick the location of where he wanted the cuts. I will wash them to see if they get more frayed but he was super excited about the cuts. If I can convince him that there are more options it will help.
I asked him after wearing the tan shoes yesterday if he wanted to keep them or get rid of them. He said he liked them and he wanted to keep them. Even if he doesn’t wear them again I was glad he chose to keep them. I like that he was able to process it and giving him choices builds his confidence for decision making.
He has been playing a lot with his robots again. He has four BeatBos. Two of the girls and two of the boys. He also has another similar one that talks in another language. I had to do minor surgery on two of them. He wanted new batteries even though they were still working I think they must have sounded slower. He will stop them as they are playing but he loves watching them.
We are working on pouring and transferring from one container to another. I have him use different-sized scoops and objects to get the items into the containers. He always wants to pour from so far up so I am trying to get him to understand how to pour closer to each container. I also have him pour some of the items like beans from the scoop into multiple containers so he can see how to spread them out.
He had a pretty calm day. There were only a few minutes that he wanted to talk about things he shouldn’t but we moved forward on those pretty quickly. I’m thankful for a good day with him. We are missing our relatives and we can’t wait until they “move” back here. His smile is my world. Let your smile shine bright and it will make someone’s day. Smiles to all and donut daze!
