Gifted Friday - our autism journey

It was a much better night of sleep. I woke a couple of times but then slept until after five and Owen didn’t come to me until almost six. He was asking about the snow and ice that is possibly going to keep him from going to school on Monday but at that point, he was calm about it all. I asked him if he understood why and he said yes but then he said he would just go to grandma’s on Monday.

He started talking about taking his teeth out and more teeth growing in. I told him that these were all his big teeth now and he wasn’t going to lose anymore. He told me that he wanted the Tooth Fairy to come so he had to get rid of his teeth. I told him that we could just invite the Tooth Fairy and see if he would come. He wants him to bring lollipops and pirate coins.

I have been searching for his favorite robot BeatBo toy in other languages. He has been requesting them forever but they are hard to find since they are retired. I finally found one of the smaller versions which is in English and Japanese. He asked when his “Japanese robot BeatBo comes in Japanese box.” He then told me that the mailman was bringing it. It should be here tomorrow hopefully.

This fascination with licking my head needs to move on its merry way. He was standing next to me talking about my bunny ears and before I could even realize what he was doing he took my hat off and licked my head. He said, “Bout to take the bunny ears on.” He says the word on when he means off and is constantly wanting me to switch between colors.

He talked a lot about his best friend. He was so upset that he couldn’t see him. He keeps telling me to ask his parents and that he wants him to go to church with him. He knows that he goes to the same therapy place so he asked me to take him there but they go on different days. He is hoping he will be in his class next year and I’m hoping that it all works out.

As the night wore on he talked more about the ice and snow. It might keep us from going to church on Sunday as well as his school on Monday. I kept reassuring him no one would be there if it was icy or too much snow. He said if he couldn’t go back on Monday he would go back to school on the 7th. He figured it all out. I hope it isn’t as bad as they are predicting and he can go back to school.

I’m thankful for a good day. He had a few moments and lots of repeated words but he was happy for the most part and very interactive with me. He needed “ten more hugs” before he went to bed and I was happy to give them. Be bold, be beautiful, be you. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
