He was watching the sleeping numbers from the Endless Learning Academy app, holding it up to his head and marching like he did when he was younger, asking about when he was heading to school. He loved it. The app series is wonderful. He cycles through the apps he has used since he was little.
Wiping his face is like watching a tennis match while eating pizza on a golf course. He moves so quickly and wants none of it done. I try to explain to him the more he moves the longer it takes but he doesn’t understand that. I finally got done after brushing his teeth so we could move on to the next phase of him getting ready.
We got dressed and went out to wait for the bus. I love his excitement when he sees the bus turn the corner. I saw him get on the bus and he sat with his friend. He was off to his happy place and my friend would soon be picking me up to go with me to all my appointments.
I didn’t tell him our friend was picking him up from school in case there was any change to my infusion schedule. I knew he would be extremely happy to see her but it was also a change for him. Thankfully he is using his words more and explaining how he feels. He told me he was “disappointed” when he didn’t get to ride the bus home. I told him I was sorry I didn’t let him know but I wasn’t sure if my appointment would get canceled. I asked him how he felt when he saw our friend and he said, “happy” and “surprise.”
They went to see his favorite statue the burger boy. He told me he “got to turn left and see burger boy.” He told me “It was fun but I didn’t want to get out.” Then they went to get some chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A. After that, they came to pick me up from the cancer center and take us home. I’m so thankful for our people. They love us oh so much and it makes my heart happy.
It was a long day at the cancer center but I’m thankful for good reports and that I could start my infusions. The doctor told me I will have eleven j fusions instead of eight but after today they will be under three hours instead of four. Onward and upward. I’m thankful for each step to the finish line because I know God is walking right there with me.
The evening went quickly. He was very calm and asked about going to school tomorrow. He wanted lots of hugs and told me that my hair was growing. He wanted me to wear my “magical hats” which is what he is calling my bunny ears now but then he said, “Head’s too hot” because that is what I keep telling him. Here’s to hoping we sleep all night. When we got home he gave me a big hug. I said I love you and he said it right back. That is what life is all about. Let your love shine and show the world kindness and grace. Smiles to all and donut daze!
