“White bed,” he said to me after requesting breakfast and making sure once again that he was going to school. He wanted me to go sit in bed with my coffee so he could play on his tablet. It was right back to the way we were before the break.
We got dressed and we went outside to wait for the bus. Rinse, repeat, and the same questions like we hadn’t even missed the last two weeks. He always tells me the bus goes straight instead of turning. I tried to show him how your breath can fog when it’s cold. He wasn’t interested because he was focused on the bus but he did try with me a couple of times. The bus came and he couldn’t wait to go.
When he came home from school he ran right inside. I asked him if he wanted to go to the park and he said no. I gave him several other options but they were all no. I did not expect anything differently but still wanted to ask. Generally, Wednesdays are for staying home unless they are not.
He stayed very busy though. He played several games of Wii bowling again and many games on his tablet. He didn’t want to answer questions from me but that is hard for him to do sometimes and he was tired from his night.
Dinner was requested chicken sticks and not nuggets. He was very specific. I am always switching brands and styles of foods so that we don’t get stuck on one kind.
He sat with me for a while and we laughed. My favorite part of any day is when he wants to take a minute to just be with me. It can be hard some days for him to sit when his body is telling him to jump. I’m thankful for those calm moments.
We painted together working on his fine motor skills and I’m thankful for his progress. I’m looking into different tutors for him as he gets older. He loves learning and can tell that I want to find more ways to encourage this so he doesn’t get frustrated as he grows. I can’t wait to see how his language skills develop.
Nighttime came quickly and I hope that means he sleeps. When he took his bath he put his goggles on by himself and even flipped them in the right direction to see out of them. He tells me he is swimming in the pool tub. I’m thankful for a good day and I’m praying for a great tomorrow. He’s so excited because one of his therapists will be back from maternity leave.
Each day is a gift. Sometimes they are rough around the edges but there is a moment when the sun shines through and lights the path to greatness. Smiles to all and donut daze!
