Each day I pray for a better day, the best day, and today Owen woke with more of a focus and in a much better mood. The coffee routine was in full swing and he followed me to my bedroom.

He sat with me for a few minutes and then it was almost with great urgency he got out of bed and ran off. A few seconds later he came back with his laptop in hand. He wanted to play with the ABCmouse program. I love that my sweet baby O loves to learn.

He had put the laptop on top of me and started telling me he wanted to go to the farm. He clicked the farm link but then he told me to use my hand to select one of the animals. He hadn’t asked me to use my hand in quite some time. He used to take my hand and select what he wanted. He is cycling through numerous behaviors.

He was still anxious about his day when he went out to wait for the bus. He wanted to make sure I was picking him up and that he wasn’t going to school on Monday and Tuesday. It is so hard to get him to focus on today even though he says “focus on today” numerous times throughout the day.

When I picked him up from school he was happy but still went through the questions of what was happening and when it was all happening. I wish I could help him process all of this.

He did great at therapy except for a few behavioral moments and he is still cycling through skills. It is like he has been focused on memories and skills from when he was a toddler. The words, phrases, and actions are reflective of that timeframe and I’m trying to figure out how that relates to what he is now learning.

We had driven by the burger boy statue before we went to therapy but he still asked if we could drive by it again. I told him we could go by it another day. We got home and he was very calm.

I gave him a bite of cottage cheese to try and he ate it. I asked him if he liked it and he said yes. I said, do you want some more and he said no. He’s had it before but not wanted to eat it so progress is being made.

He took his bath in his swimsuit and when he got out of the bath he ran off after he got dry. When I finished putting everything up I walked out and expected him to be running back and forth but instead, he was almost finished putting his clothes on. I had to help him adjust everything and turn his shirt around but it was huge. I told him so and instead of wanting to talk about it, he mentioned his days next week.

Bedtime wasn’t exactly quick but once his head was on the pillow he was out. I’m thankful he had a good day. The laughter and the progress I am happy about. We will get through the days and moments of the behaviors and figure out new ways to grow. Be thankful in the moment and find a way to share your story. Someone will be able to relate. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
