He was not listening to my instructions and instead running around yelling about seeing his teacher tomorrow. He wanted me to answer him but I couldn’t get him to focus on what was happening in the moment. I told him that I would not bring his tablet for the ride to therapy if he kept yelling and then that became his focus. I breathe trying to stay on track of the goals.
We got ready for the bus and out the door we went. He wanted to talk again about how to cross the street. I am thankful he is starting to add this to our routine. He heard me tell the bus driver he would not be on the bus tomorrow. I thought he was far enough down the aisle but he heard me. He turned around but they were able to get him seated and off they went.
When I picked him up from school his teacher told me he was emotional today and had cried. She worked with him throughout the day. He told me it was about ripping papers. I was happy he could tell me about his day. He has been expressing more emotions and the tears fall when he can’t tell me what he is feeling or getting overstimulated. I hope that he will continue to learn how to express these feelings and be able to share them.
We got to his therapy and his therapist had worn his favorite outfit. He was much calmer with her and she had followed his lead. On the way home he was very calm. I had told him we were going home for a little bit and then he was going to his grandma’s. He was excited to be going while I went to an event for his therapy clinic.
We got ready and we headed to Grandma’s. He talked about what we were doing tomorrow and all the following days but he was very calm. He had a nice visit and we headed home. He tried to get me to go different directions but I reminded him that we were taking turns and it was my turn on the way home. He didn’t yell at all. He tried to tell me which way to go a couple of times but I reminded him that it was my turn and he went back to talking about who he wanted to see and what was happening. I was thankful for his behavior.
We got home and he ate a snack. Bedtime came quicker than he wanted it to but he was excited about tomorrow so he headed off to bed and it didn’t take long for him to fall asleep. My favorite part of the day was when he asked me for a hug. Find happiness in the little things and celebrate each and every one of your victories. Smiles to all and donut daze!
