He was in a good mood when he came around the corner, telling me it was a holiday but questioning all the days ahead. They were confirming the weather was coming at us again. I had a feeling as soon as I woke up they would call school again tomorrow but I figured we would see what happened.
While he sat there eating his breakfast he was talking about his best friend’s clothes and what he would wear during the freezing temperatures. He stood there for ten minutes going through everything that he could possibly wear. He hasn’t seen him for months but he still talks to me about him almost every day. I wish he could see him more but hopefully next year they will be at the same school again.
He told me that he was going to take his teacher’s scissors when he got back to school because he had some “major craft cutting projects.” I said, “Oh really you are going to take her scissors?”He said, “Absolutely not I got my own scissors.” He laughed so hard and ran off.
He asked several times if he was going to be going to school on Monday. It’s like he skipped over all of the other days to prepare himself for another week of this. Thankfully, he had been handling it really well and talking about what the leprechauns were doing. He told me about each person in place that the leprechauns were helping.
They sent a message to let us know there would be no school tomorrow. He said, “Stay home Wednesday” ten times in a row before he moved on and then asked YouTube for Eric Carle and started going through the videos. He repeated things more today but he was truly processing this all better than he has before.
I can’t change the repetition at this point so I’m trying to get him to focus on something else. I switched to the leprechaun train and let him know that they were doing all they could. I am trying to focus on the good stuff. I am thankful for how far he has come. Find your inspiration and believe in a better tomorrow. Smiles to all and donut daze!
