He kept saying he wanted to see his teacher over and over again. We first discussed that she was not at school yet and then he kept saying that he wanted to get ready when at that point we still had about three hours before the bus was even coming to get him. I needed to distract him so I told him he had to tell me something else about his day. He said, “I get crayons and glue stick.” He then told me he would take his teacher’s scissors and he laughed because he knows he’s not supposed to do that.
He started talking about seeing his music therapist and the other child in the session with him. He said he sees his music therapist with his eyes. I thought what a connection and for him to be able to tell me was incredible. He truly feels like he is making so many more connections and thinking through everything.
He was finally off to his happy place. We stood on the porch waiting for the bus and he kept asking when he would see his teacher. He has been more repetitive again lately but I can also redirect him quicker. That is something that has taken a long time to get to that point so I’m glad that he is making that connection now and will talk to me about other things.
When he got home he started checking on all his days ahead but otherwise, he was calm. I asked him to tell me three things he did at school. He said, “Lunch, crayons, and glue stick.” There were no scissors mentioned this time. He wanted his snack and he started telling me about other things he did at school. I’m not always sure if he did all the things he mentioned but I love that he talks to me more about his day.
He wanted to know if our friend was taking him to see his grandma tomorrow since he said neither one of us could drive. I told him that I could drive now and have been driving him since my foot was better. He said, “I know.” I thought it was funny. He also started calling all our friends by their names and then adding “sometimes wears blue pants” at the end of their names.
He wanted to take a bath in the middle of dinner. I told him that he would have to take one later. He started screaming at me that he wanted a bath. I reminded him that we don’t scream at each other and we had to be kind to each other. He stopped screaming and after a little while he said, “That is enough enough scream we no scream.” He set himself straight. He took his bath and he was quite happy.
It did not take him long to fall fast asleep. I am praying that he sleeps tonight. We have to get back on the sleep train. Hopefully, he can focus on each day and not worry about the days ahead. I’m thankful for his growth and all the connections he is making. Let today be the first best day of the rest of your life. Smiles to all and donut daze!
