Returning Monday - our autism journey

The happiness of what this day holds was in our sights. Owen “slept upper night” and couldn’t wait to talk about everyone he was going to see, what he got to do, and the future that awaits him at high school and “college school.” He explained how he needs to not scribble and write his name. Plus studying more and working on his numbers. It was very informative and he was excited about it. He also couldn’t wait to get to his therapies and order his pizza. It was a full day ahead for my little learner who was making sure he knew when he would be an “a dult.”

Whenever he has to do something like change his clothes or leave his toys he will say “tell the clothes bye bye” or “tell robot people bye-bye.” Sometimes he will say “night night” instead of “bye bye” if he’s telling it that he’s going to bed. He told his nightclothes “bye bye” and he got ready for school.

I let him know that his grandma was going to pick him up from school to take him to his vision therapy. He was extremely excited about this and couldn’t wait to go. We got ready for the bus and he knew he had to help me with the trash. Just because he knew he had to help me with the trash, didn’t mean he wanted to help me with the trash. He was ready to go and he wanted no trash to stand in his way. He finally quickly helped me and we were out the door. It wasn’t long and the bus was here to take him to school.

Grandma picked him up for music therapy and they said he did really well. He then went to his grandma‘s house and he was a little more hyper but he also did well and they played a lot of games. She brought them to me for his vision therapyand I ordered his pizza for our dinner. He only wanted his four toppings on tonight pepperoni sausage, black olives, and mushrooms, which was still a great combination to me.

Hyper was still the name of the game at his appointment, but he was at least able to do some of the exercises. I’m thankful for the incredible doctor who pours her heart into my son. We left there and we went to pick up his pizza. We got home and he helped me take the pizza and get the rest of our stuff. He sat down and ate our pizza and tonight was mostly eating the toppings for him. He doesn’t usually do that, but I figured it was one of those days where he just needed the toppings.

It wasn’t long and it was bedtime. I warned him that it might snow tomorrow and he immediately asked if he was going to school. I told him that they hadn’t called to let me know that he wasn’t but you never know what happens overnight. He handled that well and hopefully, he sleeps all night. Even though he had a few tough moments that were hard he was able to shine and get the job done. Each day is a gift that is waiting to be part of your greatest memories. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
