Sweet Sunday - our autism journey

I may have woken up at four anticipating Owen to wake up early but he said I’m going to get it done and slept until after five. He came into my room proudly declaring he slept all night and that we were going to church. I’m so thankful he slept and he was calm when he woke up.

I got up and was very much in slow motion. All my days are blending together it seems. He is instantly on “go” and I am on “let me have ten cups of coffee first.” The questions are the same ones he knows the answer to and technically he always seems to know more than me.

He couldn’t wait to get ready for “church church church.” I’m trying to get him to understand time and look at the clock. He is so incredible at the days of the week without even looking at a calendar that I know he will get the concept of the clock once he gets a few more things down. He asked me one more time when we were going to church and at that point, it was still five hours before we were leaving. I tried to explain that he had to add five hours to the time. He has come a long way this year with his math and I know that he will be getting it all soon.

He was very excited to finally get to church and see his people. I love how much joy he gets in going to church. When we left he wanted to go to Wendy’s and then by the “blue church and windows.” He gets very fascinated by didn’t places. I often wonder what attracts him to them. He likes the “blue church” because its windows are reflective and shine blue.

He was finding all the pools in the area he has been to and showing them to me on his tablet. It’s a wild ride how he can find all these places and tell me about them. Then he showed me how he has to hold his nose in the water. I’m not sure where he learned this particular move because it’s not one that we’ve talked about. He can’t wait to go to the pool. It’s harder for me right now so I’m hoping that we will be able to get more people to go with us over the summer.

Nighttime came fast and he was very excited about going to school tomorrow. I cannot believe it is the last day of school. He knows he doesn’t go back to school until August but he keeps telling me he only has a week off. He is truly missing that he doesn’t get to go to summer school. I pray tomorrow he has an amazing day. He is also excited about going to therapy. His smile won my heart once again. Pray unto God for he has the answers. I’m thankful for all he has done for me. Let today be the best day of your life. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
