It was the three o’clock wake-up call once again. First, he wanted to go to the bowling alley but when I told him it wasn’t open he wanted to Wii bowl and then bowled on his tablet off and on all day. And if he wasn’t bowling he wanted me to play off and on between the times he was doing something else like eating. Bowling was all the rage today.
I think he woke up hungry because he wanted all the foods all day long. He asked for a fork for pancakes. I think that is the first time he has ever asked me for a fork. After he finished his pancakes he asked for chicken. And after he finished his chicken he asked for fish.
He asked to go bowling a couple of times but they weren’t open yet. I asked him if he wanted to go somewhere else and then go bowling but this type of thing confuses him sometimes. By the time they opened, he had moved on to not wanting to go anywhere today and we might go tomorrow after church.
He was full of interactions today. I wanted to use the word “conversation” but it was more one-sided. He’s doing much better about it but we are still working through how conversations go. He will answer questions but he doesn’t always go back and forth with me.
He was asking about tomorrow and going to church. I broke out singing Tomorrow from Annie and before I could finish it he chimed in and finished it for me. I’ve sung it a lot for him.
Anytime I have something in my mouth to eat Owen feels it is open for inspection by him. He is constantly inspecting to see if I am eating gum. I’m not quite sure what his fascination in particular with gum is since he has never had a piece of gum but he is always asking if that’s what it is. He doesn’t understand how to chew it and not swallow it.
Some days trying to get him to do something he doesn’t want to do is one of the hardest things I have to do. The screaming. The complete and utter screaming. It is something I have to push through.
Attempting to get him out of the “tub pool” was an hour-long process. He kept saying he wanted to get out to play with his tablet but clearly, he did not. This also begs the question every time; why are bathrooms not waterproof?
The evening went quickly and he is very ready to get to church tomorrow. He is hoping to see our friends. He also told me he was singing tomorrow but I don’t know where, when, or even why. I’m excited that is something he wants to do.
He fell asleep quickly but I suppose when you’ve been up since three that happens. I’m thankful for his laughter and his singing. Dance in the rain, sing in the sunlight, and let the world hear your story. It needs to be told. Smiles to all and donut daze!
