I heard Owen’s tablet around two in the morning. If he would just keep the volume down like I always tell him he might get away with staying up in the middle of the night. The magic words didn’t work at first but then I tried a little louder tone I suppose and he came to get into bed with me. Not going to grandma’s house on a Saturday is something he really does not want to mess with. Once he got into bed with me he slept until almost eight. I was quiet as a mouse when I got up. He woke in a great mood thankfully. Emotions are what get me. His, mine, ours intersect throughout the day. I think I’m handling something fine and then he comes around the corner one more time to check to see if there is anything on my bed or on the chair wrong or not on the floor correctly or the wrong light on and and and all the ors. He’s mentioned my brother’s vacuum cleaner more times than I can count today. He saw it briefly when we went there over the summer and here we are months later still talking about it. He wants his vacuum cleaner in our house and it’s hours away from us. As it is I have two vacuum cleaners in my living room because if I put them away he asks for them nonstop or attempts to get them out of the closet by himself. It’s not like two vacuum cleaners in my living room are keeping me from being neat and organized but I never know what object will have to be in a specific place. I took him to see his grandma and I ran errands. I took pizza back with me when I went to pick him up. He was excited about the pizza and ate several slices. It has been raining all day and I knew this would be hard on Owen if my pants got wet. But instead, I tried to show him that my pants would get wet. I had a glass of water and I poured some of it into my hand and then got my jeans wet. It was a tiny dot at first and then I did more. It went from him being fine with it to him getting his jacket to dry it off to him running to the bathroom to get a towel within seconds. My mom then got the hairdryer which sent him into the next phase of a meltdown. Thankfully he recovered pretty quickly. And then we got wet walking to the car. He was fine with the ride home and we even got inside without another meltdown about my pants being wet. I pointed out that his pants were wet too. I don’t know if this helped or not. He told my mom he wanted to go camping and have a fire so he could do marshmallows. This is thanks to another episode of Mickey and the gang. He told her “order it.” He wanted more pizza when we got home. When we were getting him ready for bed he told me he wanted shorts on when I tried to put pajama pants on him. He then grabbed at the bottom of his shorts to pull them down to make them cover his legs. I told him that is what the pants are for. He hopped in and out of bed looking for a nightlight that we haven’t had in maybe five or more years because he would scream every time I turn it on but now decided tonight he wanted the stars and moon on the ceiling. I turned his moon nightlight on so that at least made him happy and he told me to “order it” for the “sparkly stars.” With that he was asleep and this momma was tired. We sang and sang and sang in the kitchen tonight and the twinkle in his eyes is just what I needed. Find your sparkle and let it shine bright for the world to see. Smiles to all and donut daze!
