He had plans. He was sleepy but he had plans. Owen wanted to make sure his friend was going to be at school and that we could go to the pool when he got home. He asked many times if it was sunny and if the wood would get wet. I told him we could go if it was raining but not thundering and lightning. He asked to also go to “Dollar General shopping.” I said we could do that and he said, “No.” He also asked if he was seeing his grandma tomorrow.
We got ready and went outside to wait for the bus. He told me he wanted to go on a “Curious George adventure.” I’m not sure which adventure he was referring to but I’m sure it is in one of his books and I will be learning about it soon.
Now that there is a fence blocking his way he likes to push it and stand in the street to see when the bus turns the corner. He knows he’s not supposed to do it so he spends most of the time watching me watching him standing on the edge of the road. As soon as he saw the bus he came running to me at full force. I always brace myself for impact because he gets so excited he comes to give me a big hug or jump up and down holding my hands. Off he went on the bus reminding me about our adventure.
I knew what his words would be when he got off the bus but I wondered just the same. I figured he would want to go to the pool but you never know as the day wears on what he will think of. I was prepared either way but I figured he is very determined to jump off the diving board. He randomly talks about it and then breathes like he is underwater, showing me what he does. It seemed like he was ready to go to the pool the minute he walked off the bus.
This experience didn’t go as smoothly for us since there was a little girl who kept trying to be exactly where Owen was and even jumped right near him numerous times, splashing him more than he could handle. He told me that she needed to go ride her bicycle which is his way of telling me he is overwhelmed. We left early when he calmed down and she moved on to another family. She did not understand how hard this was on him and hopefully, next time she might understand a little more.
We got Chick-fil-A on the way home and I can tell he is growing because he ate it all very quickly. The evening was calm and I’m hoping that the pool exercise wore him out for his Friday night party. I’m thankful for his progress and the amazing way he is sticking with his goal of going off the diving board.
