One of us slept through the night and the other not so much. I am thankful Owen is sleeping better. He was ready for his day and he couldn’t wait to get it started.

He wanted “thirty-five seconds” before we could get ready even though we still had five minutes until he needed to come out from under the blanket. I’m not quite sure how come the thirty-five seconds thing has become one of his requested amounts of time but he is always asking for it.

I asked him if he wanted to wear shorts or jeans and he said, “Blue pants.” He is not happy that all his jeans are now dark denim. Most of the jeans that he had were light denim but now that he has gotten bigger when I got his new pants they were almost all dark denim and now that I lost weight again most of mine are dark as well. He wants both in light denim. I mix it all the time with my pants and try to for him but I know this is something he struggles with all day when he doesn’t wear jeans.

Creating routine in chaos is always hard but finding routine is comforting for him. However, life is full of constant changes so it is hard to always provide a smooth routine for him. Riding the bus to school is something he does almost every day but riding the bus home is not because of his therapy and appointments. I realized that is why he is constantly saying “ride the bus home” because he wants me to confirm the days even though he knows them. I remind him that even though he doesn’t ride the bus every day his schedule is still consistent each week for the most part. I feel like we are making progress with this because he decided he wanted to ride the bus on Monday when he doesn’t have his music therapy.

When he came home from school we had our advisor meeting for the program Owen is with so they were at our house. He was excited to see them but it also kept him from his routine. He kept asking when he could change but otherwise, he did great with them here. It is hard for him to have people at our house and wants them gone pretty much as soon as they get here.

The rest of the night went quickly and he is happy that his favorite day is upon us. He asked me a couple of times about riding the bus home on Monday but I reminded him he had several days to go before that so we should concentrate on today. Sleep happened quickly and I’m thankful he had a pretty good day. Always believe in the hope for tomorrow. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
