Liking Monday - our autism journey

Thankfully the sleep train came for Owen. I wasn’t sure if he would sleep since he was so excited about starting summer school. We had a little bit of time before he had to go outside to wait for the bus so he asked me about his day.

Asking about his days ahead and the people he is going to see was the theme for the day. The repetitive words once again tumbled like the waterfall crashing to the ground below. It was like he was in super drive with all of this.

I had an appointment so our friend came to wait with Owen for the bus. He was excited to see her and she let me know that he did great getting on the bus. He told me later that he was excited to see the bus driver and aide.

I picked him up for music therapy and he was so happy to be going. He loves going to his music therapy. His therapist said he did really well today and was very calm. That is music to my ears.

We came home for a little bit before his vision therapy and he ate a snack. The words tumbled down again and he was very anxious about all his people that he was missing. I wish I could explain to him why he isn’t seeing everyone he wants to see. It breaks my heart that he can’t see his friends and the people he loves so much. I have no way to explain it so he fully understands it.

We went to his vision therapy and he did okay but he was highly elevated. He was able to do some of the exercises but he told the doctor no on several of them and wouldn’t even attempt them. He was very happy to just talk to her and the intern she had with her. He asked her about chewing gum and wants her to have gum next week. He asked me many times when we got home if she was going to have gum next week.

When we came home he was once again focused on the steps for the next few days and who he would see. He misses his best friend and I wish I could tell him he would see him soon. He is very, very ready to get on that bus again tomorrow and go to school. He can’t wait to ride the bus home and he says he wants to go fishing when he gets home. Only time will tell.

Through love, we grow and today is a day to let love shine. The mountain we climb isn’t always the one we choose but the love will get us to the top. I’m thankful for all that he can do now and the growth he has shown. Find what you love and let it be your guide to an amazing tomorrow. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
