Nicely Tuesday - our autism journey

Owen woke up at almost seven. Somehow I managed to be as quiet as a mouse since I woke up at five. He didn’t come to me right away and went to sit on the couch after he went to the bathroom.

He was talking to himself and I could hear him mentioning the farm. He added a llama to his animal selection so the T-Rex and elephant wouldn’t be lonely. The llama is closer to the farm animals I was expecting. He keeps asking to go to a farm but then when I say let’s go he isn’t ready. I’m not sure where I would take him that would be less stress on him. Sometimes going to new places overwhelms him when there are too many animals at one time. He kept talking to himself on the couch and then finally ran to me to ask me about the llamas he wanted. It is never boring when he comes up with new questions for me.

He was ready to see his grandma tomorrow as soon as he woke up. When he came to ask me about the llamas he immediately started going through the steps of what was happening tomorrow. He knows I have an appointment and so he kept telling me “Mommy goes bye-bye.” This was the running theme for the day after that. Llamas and his grandma were mentioned quite often after that.

He wanted first and second breakfast pretty quickly. And the eating didn’t stop there. He was full of requests but when I suggested we go to the park that he had mentioned yesterday he wanted nothing to do with it. This is what is hard about summers. He says he wants to go places but it is hard for him to process it all. There was no convincing him all day to go anywhere except Grandma’s house tomorrow. I was not going to rock the boat because he was calm and that was important.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty quiet since I still wasn’t rocking the boat. I tried a few more times to get him to go places and he said no so I didn’t push it. The rest of the week is busy so a couple of days at home seems like exactly what he wants.

He is asking for more translations into all the different languages again. It is always fascinating to me what he wants in which language. He has been singing several songs in German. He amazes me with this and I always wonder how much he understands versus what he is saying.

I love hearing him sing and it makes me happy that he was very calm. He is hoping to see many of his friends next week when he goes to summer school and I can’t wait for him to see them. I’m thankful for a good day and the sleep he had. Hoping for more sleep tonight. Believe in yourself and the rest will follow. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
