And then the sleep train derailed. Owen was awake by four, concerned about the bus for tomorrow, and missing his friends. He moved quickly through those moments and asked for his tablet. I told him it was still nighttime and to go back to bed. He went but was back within moments.

Breakfast seemed to stretch over several hours and several selections. The anxiousness was there as well. The rain didn’t help us because we were supposed to go to the park but that kept us at home. I suggested numerous places throughout the morning but it only made the time harder for him it seemed.

We played games together and he wanted to watch me play his favorite game on his tablet. It always amuses me that he would rather watch me play than play the game himself but yet when I get down to the last couple of plays he wants to do them. As soon as the last plays are done he wants me to play the next game. It is interesting to watch his thought process.

As the day went on his emotions went up. He struggles when he has days off but especially in the middle of the week. I felt like he was getting more and more agitated when I would suggest going somewhere. If I try to make him go to places when he doesn’t want to then it makes it even harder for him to process it all and it can lead to meltdowns or behavior issues.

I thought he might want to go get a pizza for dinner but that didn’t interest him at all either. His focus stayed strong once he knew we weren’t going to the park in the morning because of the rain. He wanted to make sure he was going to see his best friend tomorrow and ride the bus home.

After the afternoon turned into evening the calmer he got but the repetitive words were ramped up. He knew it was getting closer to his time to go back to school and through the motions to see his best friend. I love that he is building all these incredible friendships. It makes me happy to know he wants to spend time with his friends.

The day didn’t go according to plan but we played lots of games together and ate lots of food. We sang together even though my singing was not his favorite. He let me eat a banana without attempting to throw it in the trash and he even tried a couple of new things for me.

We worked on our new relaxation technique and I think it is helping with his progress. It wasn’t the calmest of days but it still felt like a productive day. The victories come when we face the challenges head-on and find ways to conquer them. Let today be your day for victories. Smiles to all and donut daze!

I'm Lynn Browder. Owen's Mommy. The best moments in time are when I get to see the smile on his face and that giggle come from his heart.
